Hans Rudolf Scholarship

At JavaSpecialists.EU we have always strived to make the world a better place by providing a huge amount of material for free to anyone who wishes to become more proficient in Java. You can read any one of our 264 articles without providing your email address (although we encourage you to subscribe to make sure you don't miss any issues). You are welcome to turn on adblockers, but it won't make any difference since we don't show any third-party ads on our website anyway.

We make our income from offering extremely high quality Java training to companies who wish to run in-house courses with 10 or more programmers on topics such as Design Patterns, Advanced Java and Concurrency. These course are also available as on-demand courses on Vimeo:

We frequently get approached by programmers who would like free access to our paid-for courseware. This is why we have launched the Hans Rudolf Scholarship, where they can earn full access to the three on-demand courses that we offer. In addition, they will have the honour of being a Hans Rudolf Scholarship recipient.

How Can YOU Earn a Hans Rudolf Scholarship?

The Hans Rudolf Scholarship is worth almost $2000, so you have to earn it by demonstrating your willingness to work hard and take responsibility for your own education.

In order to receive the coveted Hans Rudolf Scholarship, you need to do the following:

  1. Study all 264 of the free newsletters published on the JavaSpecialists.EU Archives.
  2. Listen to our 22 free Java tutorials.
  3. Pass a live Skype oral examination with the author Dr Heinz M. Kabutz where he asks questions of 10 random newsletters and 2 random tutorials to confirm that you have studied our free material. It is very important that you pass first time, as no second examinations will be given. Also, from when you submit your name for this scholarship, you have 7 days to make an appointment for the exam, after which you will forfeit your opportunity.

Once you have completed the first two tasks on the list (study all 264 newsletters and watch all 22 Java tutorials), please fill in this form and we will make an appointment to do the oral examination via Skype:

Note: This scholarship rewards diligence rather than financial need. Anybody who has fulfilled the requirements is eligible to receive the Hans Rudolf Scholarship. It does not matter if you are rich or poor, black or white, female or male. Please only fill in the form once you've done parts 1 and 2 of the list above. And remember, you only have one chance to pass the oral examination. Financial need is no excuse for not doing the hard work required to earn this esteemed scholarship.

Why is it called the Hans Rudolf Scholarship?

Heinz's father was called Hans Rudolf Kabutz. He passed away in 2002 at the young age of 64. He taught Heinz what hard work meant. Heinz saw him work tirelessly in his drinking straw factory, often 12 hours a day. From when he was a little child, his father would point out the University of Cape Town to him and say: "One day, you will be a student there!" He was one of the first subscribers to The Java Specialists' Newsletter and always encouraged Heinz to "keep on going". This scholarship is in his honour.
